Bill K.
In the fall of 1957 when recent graduates of Toll Jr. High found their way across the street to Hoover High School, they discovered a feature that was cool beyond all expectations - HHS had a "Senior Parking Lot" right in the center of campus that was bordered by the snack bar, the gyms and the shop building. Seniors who drove their cars to school (and arrived early) could display their cars where everyone could admire them during snack period and lunch. Several of the cars displayed belonged to members of the recently formed Bel-Airs Car Club. One such car was a '50 Oldsmobile Holiday Coupe painted Titian Red with a black top. As we soon learned, this car belonged to Bill K. Unfortunately, we can find no surviving photographs of this car. Nevertheless, its image remains clear in our memories as the kind of ride we aspired to have one day. Sadly, the following year the administration converted the Senior Parking Lot to girls' basketball courts. Apparently they thought that watching young women in gym shorts playing basketball was less distracting to our studies than a bunch of hot rods.
BIll, himself, is still out there and when we contacted him looking for a picture of the Olds, he sent us the image below, showing that he still has a taste for classic machines displayed in an attractive setting:
